Heterogenous Humans

Nathaniel Mary Quinns’ “Mend” is a piece of art that can be interpreted in many different ways. In his artwork, he creates a portrait of a person’s headshot on a canvas. The unique aspect of “Mend” is how he used different facial features to create the portrait — for example, painting the nose and mouth differently than the eyes.

Although there are many various ways that the meaning of this artwork can be interpreted, I notice how the mismatched fragments represent how human beings are made up of many different aspects that identify them as a person. People cannot identify themselves with a specific characteristic, which is the message that Nathaniel Mary Quinn beautifully captured in “Mend”.
